It has been incredible to hear positive responses thus far from peers, and also the professionals that participated in the video. One memorable message I received was from someone I know who is currently studying music therapy, who said "I just wanted to say it’s absolutely beautiful!!! I’m just finishing my final year of the music therapy training now and it’s amazing to have watched that video, it’s given me such a boost!". It was lovely to hear that it could have a positive influence on those already working in the music therapy professions as well!
The project has been an amazing learning experience for me. I have learnt a lot more about the profession than I knew before, and it has been interesting to take on the challenge of creating new research around the current pandemic that has not been done in depth before. It was really encouraging to have spoken to a lot more participants than I thought I would, as that just shows how necessary this project is. They all shared similar opinions to me that there is not much general knowledge about music therapy in the public, and that more needs to be done to raise awareness, so it was an honour to have helped with this.
I would still really like to have someone do the sign language for the video, as it is important to me to make sure it is as inclusive as possible, especially when discussing a topic that is a non-verbal way of communication. One participant did mention that there is a lack of diversity within the profession, so I would be eager to research more into this and try and advocate for a profession that is more representative of the clients they work with.
I want to mention all the amazing professionals I got to speak to, who I am inspired by and wish to follow in their footsteps. They continue to be very encouraging to me and I am grateful that they wanted to be involved and share their stories. I am extremely proud of what I have created, and after long hours of editing and researching, I truly believe I have created a resource that can be used in the future to raise awareness about music therapy. Who knows, maybe it will pop when I study my Music Therapy Masters degree in the near future!
To do:
Continue to contact someone to do the sign language
Keep sharing the video around!
